Utah Claims The Greatest Snow On Earth - OnTheSnow

This is an interesting article where it analyzes the claim of Utah as having the "Greatest Snow on Earth." Read the whole thing and you will get the gist. Honestly, I never had a word for the snow here but now I know when I am waist deep I can say...."Sweet Dendrite!"

First year with a helmet!

This year I took the helmet plunge. Years of skiing can free made this change a bit weird but I have to say I love it. I bought a Giro G10 and it is great. The vent on top allows me to adjust the temperature and the helmet is super light. And yes this is third day up....woohooo.

Custom Feet

Do you have weird feet? Do you struggle with finding comfortable boots? With custom foot beds, you eliminate all those problems. I must have been born to ski as my size 11A flat feet have closer resemblance to boards save the toes attached at the end. Finding shoes is a nightmare and ski boots used to be worse. However, about ten years ago I bought custom foot beds and all is well. Today's boot has a ton of options for customization including formed outer shell and linings. However, the custom foot bed is really the best!

The process involves baking the pad and the placing it on your foot. They then suck the air out a bag while the pad is attached to your foot. This makes it form directly to your feet. Voila, you now have an insole that matches your foot exactly. This technology is really worth the extra money as it makes boots much more comfortable, gives your boots more life and really increases performance on the slopes.

Those of you with normal feet can just be quiet.

helluva book!

Posted by email
I grew up in California and learned how to ski there.  However, I was fortunate enough to have relatives in Utah who had me out once in awhile and showed me what it is like to ski the Wasatch Mountains.  What a difference!  After trying Utah powder, I became totally spoiled...I'll never be able to enjoy skiing California to the same degree again.

I eventually moved out here and have skied almost all of Utah's 13 resorts.  For those who don't have cousins in the state, you can pick up Mike Fine's informative overview of the various Utah resorts.  It has what you need to plan your visit, to get the lowdown on where to ski or ride the "greatest snow on earth."  Great pictures, clearly written, details relevent to every level and ability...ski dawg Mikey F. wrote a very Fine book.  You won't be disappointed.

Scottevest - The Batman utility belt for the active person.

Scottevest makes some pretty cool gear. I own a fleece hoodie and I love how I can incorporate my headphones for my iPod right into the jacket. For the gadget lover, their clothes are a dream. You always have enough pockets and they are really durable. I am actually planning on getting the microfleece top to wear under my shell so I can keep my phone and iPod protected but accessible while I am on the mountain.
